I setup this blog to establish open communication with our customers and users of VoIP technologies. Hopefully I can make a meaningful contribution to this area with my software engineering, telecommunications and technical background.

It's kinda hard to believe, but apparently Skype is completely sold out of Arizona phone numbers.  I went to buy a Skype-In or Skype Online Phone Number on friday and the only choice it gave me was a Casa Grande areacode.  I went back today and Arizona is completely missing from the State selection list.  Hopefully they will get some new phone numbers at some point, either that or Arizona needs a new areacode.  I had a Skype-In number a few years ago, but Skype didn't support outgoing caller-id which makes it kinda useless so I let it expire and didn't proceed with developing a version that works with Skype.

I'm working on a Skype version of Call On CRM now that the caller id issue is fixed and kinda need this to do development.

Broadsoft announced over the holidays that it has acquired it's rival, Sylantro.  This is great news for CRM Integration Systems! Sylantro customers include AT&T, China Netcom, Nuvox, QWEST, StarHub, Swisscom, Earthlink and others. Eventually they will be assimilated into the Broadsoft collective making Call On CRM work on even more phone system platforms.

Way to go Broadsoft!

Well, I have to say, I am quite pleased to receive an award for my work on Call On CRM. This product has been my baby for the last 2 years and I'm happy to receive some recognition for all the hard work that went into making this product what it is... "Companies displaying vision, leadership and attention to detail were selected by the editors of Customer Interaction Solutions to receive the prestigious award."

If you've been keeping track, you'll notice we recently changed our product name from Call On ACT! to Call On CRM.  Specifically our product is now called "Call On CRM for ACT!" as Call On CRM is a blanket term to signify our product.  We did this to make our product name act as more of a blanket name for other CRM product integration instaead of targeting ACT! specifically.

Our new product, Call On CRM for ACT! is still in it's beta release phase, but the beta is looking pretty solid, we may push it out as a release here in a few days.  Our new version v1.1 is a major upgrade from Call On ACT! v1.0.  New features in v1.1 from v1.0 include:

Reverse phone / contact lookup features using WhitePages.com and ZoomInfo.com This allows you to search WhitePages.com and ZoomInfo.com's databases for a matching contact or company using the phone number or caller id info on an incoming unknown call.  This way you can quickly create a new contact by pre-populating the contact's details instead of having...

Well, CallOnACT! is now available.. It's been a fun project to work on so far, and were just getting started.  Sometimes I wish programming weren't so time consuming and you could work more on things that matter instead of all the tiny little details and problems you have to discover and fix whenever you design new software.  It's challenging though, I definatly feel a sense of accomplishment after producing a product that people can get a lot out of.  That's the reward really, being able to write software that can help other do more.

Software is one of the few things that I can do once, and then people can benefit from my work to do their own work.  I've always written software with the end-user in mind.  A lot of developers don't do that very well, the type of mind it requires to build complex software applications is normally not the same mind that can't think like the user, to understand their wants and frustrations, and to know how to translate that into a highly usable application that just makes...

So, the day has come, Microsoft releases Unified Communications..  I decided not to goto the release in SF, simply because I have too much stuff to do, and there is no reason to spend money to go there.  There are plenty of web based resources that I research and study to learn more about UC.

I read a pretty good white paper by Nortel, called "Hyperconnectivity: an unstoppable force of change."

This is definetly where things are headed, soon everything will be connected.  For better or worse its coming...  10-20 years from now most people will have never driven a car without a navigation system to guide them.  Imagine if the thing broke and you could no longer find your way around because you had become so dependant on it.

The waves keep coming...

So, Microsoft is going to try to get into telephony.  I'm sure they will do quite well in the endevour.  They already have a good foothold in the Enterprise Server market and alot of companies use an Exchange / Outlook combo deployment.  This new initiative promises to provide VoIP style functionaity without companies having to scrap thier PSTn system and start over from scratch.

Bill and Company are having a big launch day in SF:

Join Bill Gates & Jeff Raikes at Unified Communications Launch Join Bill Gates and Jeff Raikes as they kick off the worldwide Unified Communications Launch 2007 in San Francisco on October 16.
