I setup this blog to establish open communication with our customers and users of VoIP technologies. Hopefully I can make a meaningful contribution to this area with my software engineering, telecommunications and technical background.

Skype has decided to kill thier extras program.  I say good ridance!  From the start Skype's extras program was only open to applications that "enhance Skype"  Call On CRM was submitted several times and rejected from the Skype extras program.

Skype is normally people's first experience with a VoIP phone system.  It's kind of unfortunate, as it really gives VoIP a bad rap.  Skype isn't a very good phone system.  Yes, it works..  Yes, it has some cool features like presence, IM (chat functionality), file transfers and more, but it's really just a glorified Instant Messaging app.

A recent article on TMC-Net shows a new phone release from Polycom

What a great phone!  It's a little pricey at $1100, but hopefully the price will come down as these get more mainstream.

This phone has an open API, which opens it up for developers like myself to make it dance..  It will be interesting to see what the API offers as far as integration goes..  Apparently Broadsoft and other vendors are certifing the phone for use on thier platforms.

It's kinda hard to believe, but apparently Skype is completely sold out of Arizona phone numbers.  I went to buy a Skype-In or Skype Online Phone Number on friday and the only choice it gave me was a Casa Grande areacode.  I went back today and Arizona is completely missing from the State selection list.  Hopefully they will get some new phone numbers at some point, either that or Arizona needs a new areacode.  I had a Skype-In number a few years ago, but Skype didn't support outgoing caller-id which makes it kinda useless so I let it expire and didn't proceed with developing a version that works with Skype.

I'm working on a Skype version of Call On CRM now that the caller id issue is fixed and kinda need this to do development.
